FEMALES – Use of Synthetic Hormones Cause Increased Health Risks

whi_lg

The Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study analyzed the health of 16,000 women aged 50 to 79 years after five years of using HRT (Premarin and Provera or PremPro) and found an increased incidence of just about every major disease the hormones were supposed to be preventing!  Percentage-wise that meant:

  • A 41 percent increase in strokeshrtchart
  • A 29 percent increase in heart attacks
  • A 26 percent increase in breast cancer
  • A 22 percent increase in total cardiovascular disease
  • A doubling of the rate of blood cloths
  • A possible contributor to Alzheimer’s disease
  • and recent research, such as the Women’s Health Initiative Study, indicate they increase a woman’s risk for heart disease, breast cancer, Alzheimer’s, and etc.

The Hormones used in this study were SYNTHETIC HORMONES! It’s very important to understand that the hormones used in the Women’s Health  Initiative in 2002 were synthetic hormones. I have included some basic definitions of what hormones are, and some of the differences between Natural Hormones and Synthetic Hormones.

What Are Hormones?
Definedhormones simply, hormones are naturally occurring chemicals our bodies use to coordinate functions between cells, glands, and organs.  Estrogen and progesterone are well-known examples. Hormones can affect almost any function of our bodies, including mood, desires, thermoregulation, and the timing of regular events, such as sleeping.

What are Natural Hormones?
Natural Hormones may be called by various names.  In my personal writings and on the pages of my website, I use the terms bio-identical, human identical, and natural interchangeably. These are different words that I use to mean the same thing, and I define them collectively as hormones that are identical in molecular structure to the hormones produced endogenously by the human body. In other words, these hormones have chemical structures that are identical to the ones that our bodies produce.

What are Synthetic Hormones?
Synthetic hormones are frequently used to treat a wide variety of medical problems, such as infertility, acne, family planning, PMS or PMDD, amenorrhea, irregular menstrual cycles, pre-menopausal symptoms, menopause, and osteoporosis — to mention just a few.  These hormones are NOT chemically equivalent to the hormones our bodies produce, and there are risks associated with the use of conventional Hormone Replacement Therapy, or HRT.
